A day without mobile phone

We have become a society that is totally dependent on communication devices to make our world go round. We have technology today that allows us to keep in almost constant contact with one another. We communicate through cell phones. The phone, TV, personal computer and Internet have found revolutionary ways to connect people, entertain them and empower them. But nothing has matched the seismic cultural shift created by the cell phone, with its ability to connect and deliver content virtually anywhere, anytime. Although most of us have grown familiar with cell phones during the past 10 years, we often don’t realize how much our world has been transformed by the little device in our pockets and purses.

The cell phone, has completely changed the way our world lives and is no longer a novelty. Rather, it is a necessity for today’s fast-paced lifestyles.

And so, about a week ago I wondered to myself, “what would one day be like without my cell phone?” Therefore, I decided to challenge myself to not use my cell phone at all one Sunday.

The morning of that Sunday started off pretty rough considering I had to wake up to a traditional alarm clock blaring into my ears instead of melodious alarm. After I got out of bed, and saw none of my roommates were home. I wondered where they were and naturally reached for my celphone to text them. “Oh no!” I thought to myself. This is when I began to get frustrated.

I thought it would be a good idea to go for a run outside. Since I use my phone for music, I had to run without listening to songs. I felt like I had no motivation to pace myself to. Consequently, I cut my run short. The rest of the afternoon consisted mainly of homework.
