A day without my mother speech

Clean the mess from your room, before you leave for school,” my mother shouted from the kitchen.
“Oh mom, please! I am getting late…” I jumped down the stairs and took my bag.
I left for school without making my bed and washing my dishes. After six hours of school, I entered the house and slammed the main door behind me, carelessly.
“Mom, I’m home! And I am really, really hungry!” I shouted at top of my voice and threw my bag on one side of the sofa while taking off the socks and throwing them in other direction of the living room.

Usually, my mom would cry in frustration at me for not putting the bag and the socks on their proper places, however, today, there was no reply from mom which made me a little anxious. I searched every room but I couldn’t find her. And then I saw a note on the fridge which read:
“Your grandmother is not feeling well, so I am going to look after her for two days, at least.”
“Two days, at least!” I cried.
All my hunger vanished for a brief moment; I sighed and stomped off to my room. Soon, the door slammed open and my elder brother entered.
“Aren’t you going to cook dinner?” he inquired.
“What? Why? You do it! I don’t even know how to boil an egg,” I made a face.
“It’s your fault, you should know it, you do the cooking and in the meanwhile I’ll do the laundry,” he replied.
As I was already very hungry, I thought of making egg sandwiches which I remember once my mom said were easy to make.
So I got up and said to my brother, “Fine, and don’t criticise or disturb while I’m in the kitchen!”
I went into the kitchen; it looked so different. Actually, I hardly went into the kitchen, it was just to put empty dishes or wash a plate or two. Anyway, I put on the apron and searched through the cabinets. My younger sister, Anne, came and demanded lasagne. I pushed her out and shouted.
“You come here and cook for yourself!”
I realised how annoying it must have been for mom when we kept demanding different dishes simultaneously.
I took out eggs from the fridge but, as bad luck would have it, one of the eggs fell to the ground and the yolk spilled all over the place. Just then, my four-year-old brother came into the kitchen and eyeing the yellow mess, he jumped on it and got it all over him!
I pushed him out and accidently hit a jug of water which fell directly to the floor and crashed into a million pieces. My brother started crying. I angrily picked up the little devil and washed him up while I was cleaning the floor, I heard a bang and then my elder brother’s voice came, “Jenny!”
“What?” I rushed to the laundry room from where I heard my brother shouting.
I saw him covered up with soapy foam. Normally, I would have laughed but when I saw smoke coming out of the washing machine I was horrified. And all the wet clothes were scattered around on the floor.
“I guess I put all the laundry inside and too much detergent so now... it kind of… exploded…” my brother scratched his head.
“And you mixed up the laundry!” I picked up my uniform which was dyed green and pink. “Why did you put the white clothes with the coloured ones?”
“How was I supposed to know the coloured ones should be washed separately?” my brother answered back.
I sighed and we began cleaning the mess and washing the clothes together. It took us three hours to come out from the laundry room.
At 7pm, dad arrived and asked for dinner. I served the sandwiches I made and everyone ate them quietly.
“These sweet sandwiches are pretty good invention!” dad said while smiling.
I didn’t say anything... I guess, I must have added sugar in the eggs by mistake!
It was the most tiring day in our life; we were worn out and just before going to the bed, I heard the door bell and after a few minutes, the door of my room opened.
I saw my mom entering the room while having a little smile on her face!
Without wasting a second, I ran towards her and hugged tight; I cried and thanked her for what she had been doing for us all without even a single frown on her forehead. Mom laughed. I had finally understood how much work our mothers do for us each day, and sadly, we never thank them.
