So as to gain 20% on the whole transaction, he must sell the remaining per watch at Rs. 495.

Step-by-step explanation:

Cost of each watch = Rs. 400

So, the cost of 400 watches = 100 * 400 = Rs. 40000

It is given 20 of the 100 watches were sold at 5% profit.

So, let the selling price of the remaining (100 - 20=) 80 watches be Rs. “x”.

According to the question, we can write the eq. as,

[20*400*{(100+5)/100}] + x = [40000 * {(100+20)/100}]

⇒ [20*400*{105/100}] + x = [40000 * {120/100}]

⇒ 8400 + x = 48000

⇒ x = 48000 – 8400

x = Rs. 39600 selling price of 80 watches

The selling price of each of the remaining 80 watches = Rs. [39600/80] = Rs. 495

Thus, the dealer must sell the remaining watches at Rs. 495 each.
