A deer being preyed upon by the lion runs at a speed of 9 m/s. The lion chases the deer at a speed of 10m/s. If the instantaneous separation of deer from lion is 100m, how long would it take the lion to catch the deer?

Answer:

The time taken by lion to catch the deer is 100 sec.

Explanation:

Relative Velocity: It is the time rate of change of relative position of one object with respect to another object.

⇒V₂₁=V₂-V₁

or ΔV=V₂-V₁ (Relative Velocity of lion with respect to deer)

V₂: Speed of lion

V₁: Speed of deer

ΔV=(10-9)m/s

ΔV=1 m/s

As we know that ΔV=d/t

where d= distance covered ; t= time taken

⇒ t = d/ΔV

⇒t=100/1

⇒t=100 sec

Hence, The time taken by lion to catch the deer is 100sec.
