What is a computer?

• A computer is a machine which can perform certain functions and programs.
• A computer generally uses the binary language to function.
• Data can be stored, retrieved and processed in a computer.

Block Diagram of computer

• A block diagram of a computer can be described as a structural diagram highlighting the parts of a computer.

• There are three main units of the computer system.

1. Input unit
2. Central processing unit
3. Output unit

• Input unit: The input unit is made up of keyboard, mouse, scanner etc. The function of the input unit is to convert information to the binary form for the computer to understand and process.
• Central Processing unit: CPU can be described as the brain of the computer. All the operations are processed using the central processing unit.
• Output unit: The output units display the results after the processing by the computer are done. The binary language is turned to a human-readable format.
