(a) Corrosion could be a process by which an oxide layer is created on a metal surface because of oxidation when the metal is exposed to moist air. The corrosion of iron is termed rusting.
(b) The metal silver on exposure to moist air develops a black coating and on the other hand copper on exposure to moist air develops a greenish coating.
(c) The damages caused by corrosion to metal are :
- It results in a reduction of the strength of the metal.
- Corrosion eats up the metal and decreases the size.
Prevention: Corrosion can often be prevented by the methods of painting, galvanizing, alloying, oiling, tinning, or greasing.
