(a) Define dispersion of light. Draw a diagram to show dispersion of light.
(b) Define angle of deviation. Mark the angle of deviation for red colour. Which colour deviates the (i)most;
(ii) least, after refraction through a prism?

Explanation:

because glass slab has less density and prism has more .

Answer:

a) When a light is passed through prism it scatters into its substitute seven colors. This is called dispersion of white light.

b)The angle by which an incident ray bends from it's original path is called angle of deviation.

(i) violet color deviates the most.

(ii) red color deviates the least.

c)We can't obtain spectrum through a glass slab because in prism , the light strikes one surface , undergoes refraction and passes the glass and when emerges out refracts again.While in glass slab , the refracted ray emerges out which is parallel to the incident ray and does not show scattering of light.Emergent ray is parallel in glass slab but it is divergent in glass prism.
