Answer:

a ) The boy was very much upset after losing the ball. He was filled with sadness, which affected him greatly. Stunningly he stood in a stiff manner, overpowered with grief, trembling and staring down where his ball was lost.

b ) The poet says "I will not intrude on him" because the boy, for the first time in his life, experiences the grief of losing a much loved possession-his ball. He does not want to disturb the boy as he wants him to feel what it is like to lose something. The poet wants him to be able to cope with his loss.
