Answer:

(a)  A lead storage battery is an example of a secondary cell which can be recharged by passing current through it in the opposite direction so that it could be reused. It consists of a lead anode and a grid of lead filled with lead dioxide (PbO2) as cathode and the electrolyte used is 38% solution of sulphuric acid.

(b)   The cell reactions in this cell when it works to produce electricity are as follows:

At anode: Pb(s) + SO42- → PbSO4 (s) + 2e-

At cathod: PbO4 (s) + SO2- (aq) + 4H+ (aq) + 2e- → PbSO4 (s) + 2H2O(l)

Overall reaction:

Pb(s) + PbO2(s) + 2H2SO4 (aq) → 2PbSO4 (s) + 2H2O(l)

Hope it helps ;)
