Description of the Graph:

• This is graph of Applied Force VS Frictional Force.

• As we can see in the graph, when the applied force is increased the frictional force regulate itself and increases so as to keep the body at rest.

• This friction is known as static friction and helps to keep the body stationary on a surface.

• This phenomenon occurs till a critical condition after which friction becomes constant even with increasing applied force. Hence the body starts moving.

• Now, this friction is known as kinetic friction and it is experienced when the body is moving.

• Please note that the value of kinetic friction is slightly less as compared to the maximum static friction mainly due to decreased contact in between the two surfaces during movement.

People often rub their hands in winter. Why ?

• In winter , people experience cold and chills, especially in the hilly or remote areas.

• That is why , people have a tendency to rub their hands so that the frictional force between the two hands helps to generate heat and give them a feeling of warmth.
