SUMMARY:
Les Misérables is a story about Jean Valjean, an ex-convict who was imprisoned for 19 years because of stealing a loaf of bread. While trying to start a new life for himself, he adopted the name Monsieur Madeleine, and with the help of Bishop Myriel, he became a successful factory owner. Valjean later adopted a girl named Cosette after her mother Fantine, a former factory worker, died. Along the way, he is being hunted by a police officer named Javert.
