A dialogue between two friends about illiteracy problem in bangladesh
Answers
A: Have you noticed how many Bangladeshis are moving to India?
B: It is natural for them to do so. It’s because they don’t see a bright future for themselves in Bangladesh. And the main reason is illiteracy.
A: What has illiteracy have to do with it?
B: Well, if the rate of illiteracy is high, people are unable to use education to break free from poverty. They don’t understand this cycle.
A: You mean if a poor person has access to education, he can shape up well, get a job and become financially independent and may be even support his old parents and family.
B: Exactly!
A: It makes sense now- no education, so no plans for future and the continuous struggle with poverty.
B: Yes. But things are slowly changing in Bangladesh. The government is taking education very seriously.
A: I did hear of a UNESCO report too. It said that the numbers were showing improvement.
B: Many NGO’s are working with the government to end illiteracy. They are trying to get all children to attend school.
A: It is not that easy to suddenly end illiteracy, but yes, if the efforts are consistent, may be some day Bangladesh might just achieve the 100% literacy rate.
B: That’s a very difficult target to achieve!
A: True, but only if you aim high, will you be able to achieve something substantial.
B: Education can actually change the future of the entire nation. There will be more people with good ideas, more development, better infrastructure, better policies and finally, a better country altogether!
