The chance or probability that the upper face will be 3 in a roll of an unbiased dice is  \frac{1}{6} .

Given

An unbiased 6 sided dice is rolled.

To find:

Probability that the dice will get a value of

a)3

b)less than 3

c)more than 3

d)8

Solution:

From the theory of probability we know that it is the branch of mathematics which deals with the chance of a random occurrence of a particular event.

Probability is calculated by the ratio of the favorable outcome to the total outcome of any event or P=\frac{\text{favourable outcome}}{\text{total outcome}}

Total outcome when a dice is rolled = 6

a) favorable outcome = 1

Probability that the upper face is 3 = \frac{1}{6}

b) Upper face is less than 3

Favorable outcome={1,2} =2

Probability =\frac{2}{6} =\frac{1}{3}

c)Upper face is more than 3

Favorable outcome={4,5,6} =3

Probability =\frac{3}{6} =\frac{1}{2}

d) Upper face is 8 .

favorable outcome = 0

hence probability is also 0.
