Step-by-step explanation:

Given:-

A die is thrown.

To find:-

Find the probability of getting :

i. a number 3

ii. an even number

iii. a number greater than 6

Solution:-

A die is thrown once then

Sample Space ={1,2,3,4,5,6}

The total number of all possible outcomes = 6

Throwing a die is a random experiment then the probability of an event E is P(E)

  • =Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes

I)A number 3:-

Number of favourable outcomes to 3 = 1

Probability of getting a number 3 on the die

P(3)=1/6

ii)an even number:-

Even numbers on the die = 2,4,6

Number of favourable outcomes = 3

Probability of getting an even number =

=>P(e)=3/6

P(e)=1/2

iii)a number greater than 6:-

Since there is only numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6 on a die and there is no chance to get greater than 6

Number of favourable outcomes = 0

Probability of getting a number greater than 6 =

P(greater than 6)=0/6

P(greater than 6)=0

It is an impossible event.

Answer:-

  • I) Probability of getting a number 3 on the die =1/6

  • ii) Probability of getting an even number =1/2

  • Probability of getting a number greater than 6 = 0

Used formulae:-

  • Probability of an event E is P(E)=Number of favourable outcomes/Total number of all possible outcomes
