Given,

a die is thrown 256 times and an even digit turns up 150 times.

n = 256

To Find,

z=?

Solution,

to find z we have to apply the formula z = ( x - μ )/ σ

where μ is the mean and σ is the standard deviation.

probability of even digit is

p=\frac{number of favourable outcomes}{total of favourable outcomes}\\

p= \frac{150}{256} \\

p= \frac{75}{128} \\

p = 0.5859375

now, find the mean(μ = np) and standard deviation(σ = sqrt[n x p (1-p)] .

mean (μ) = np

              = 256 x (75/128)

              = 150

standard deviation (σ) = sqrt[n x p (1-p)]

                                     = sqrt[256 x (75/128)(1-(75/128))]

                                     = 62.109375

now, find [z = ( x- μ) / σ ]

z = ( x- μ) / σ

  = (256 - 150) / 62.109375

  = 1.70666 (approx)

z= 1.7

Hence the value of z is 1.7
