The main difference between fertilization and germination is that fertilization is the fusion of gametes, which forms the zygote whereas germination is the development of a plant from seed or spore under favorable conditions.

(4) - After fertilization the sepals, petals and stamens of the flower wither and fall off. The pistil however, remains attached to the plant.
