a) . Striated muscles are highly organized tissues (Fig. 1) that convert chemical energy to physical work. The primary function of striated muscles is to generate force and contract in order to support respiration, locomotion, and posture (skeletal muscle) and to pum p blood throughout the body (cardiac muscle).

Cardiac muscle cel ls are located in the walls of the he art, appear striated, and are under involun tary control.

b.). Epidermis, in botany, outermost, prot oderm-derived layer of ce ll s covering the stem, root, leaf, flower, fruit, and seed parts of a plant. The epide rmis and its w ax y cuticle provide a protective barrier against mechanical injury, water loss, and infection.

c). The cork cell s are dead and compactly packed with no intercellular space. Their c ell walls are coated with a waxy substance, suberin, which do not allow water and gases to pas s through. Therefore, it protects the plant against mechanical injury and also prevents the loss of water by evaporation.
