A diffraction grating contains 5000 lines per cm. [ per nm can't be possible ] If light of wavelength of 5896 Å is incident on it.

To find : The angle of diffraction of the second Maxima.

solution : here a diffraction grating contains 5000 lines per cm.

so, d = 1/N = 1/(5000) × 10¯² m

= 2 × 10¯⁶ m

wavelength of light, λ = 5896 A° = 5.896 × 10^-7 m

using formula, dsinθ = nλ

for second Maxima, n = 2

⇒(2 × 10¯⁶) sinθ = 2 × 5.986 × 10^-7

⇒sinθ = 5.896/10 = 0.5896

⇒θ = 36.13°

Therefore the angle of diffraction of the second Maxima will be 36.13°.
