Given : A dime has a diameter of 17.91 millimeters.

Use 3.14 for π.

To Find :  the area of the face of a dime

Round to the nearest hundredth if necessary.

Solution:

area of the face of a dime   = π ( radius)²

π = 3.14

radius = Diameter/2

=>  radius = 17.91/2

=>  radius = 8.955 mm

area of the face of a dime  = 3.14 ( 8.955)²

= 251.803

= 251.8  mm²

area of the face of a dime  = 251.8  mm²
