The poet Shelley, gave up on the world. He felt, there is so much of wrong in the world that, it is a lost cause. He saw the world dying, because of all the wrong things happening on it, followed by grief. He thought it was almost on the verge of death. Hence the dirge (funeral song).

Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792 – 1822) was an English romantic poet.

P B Shelly in the poem “Dirge” felt morbid at the way the world is turning out to be, each passing day.

There were so much negativity and wrong doings in the world that compelled Shelly to think that the world was dying gradually.

All the wrong and illegal things that continued on the world, took it one step forward towards its grave.

Hence he gave the title Dirge which means funeral song.
