Diakinesis

Explanation:

  • Diakinesis is marked by the terminalization of chiasmata.
  • Chromosomes are completely condensed and preparation for separation of homologous chromosomes occurs.
  • Nuclear membrane disappears and nucleolus also disappears by the end of Diakinesis.
  • Re-condensation of chromosomes occurs. Spindle formation starts and the tetrad of chromosomes move towards the equatorial plate.
  • Diakinesis represents transition to metaphase.
  • Diakinesis is considered to be the last stage of meiosis prophase-1
  • Therefore all these characteristics represent the Diakinesis phase of Meiosis-1.
