Answer:

your answer is

Let CP be Rs 1 per gm.

At purchase time, he pays Rs 1000 to get 1200 gms.

=> Effetive CP per gm = 1000/1200 = 5/6

Let SP he Rs 1 per gm.

At selling time, he charges Rs 1000 for 800 gms.

=> Effective SP per gm = 1000/800 = 5/4

=> Profit = 5/4 - 5/6 = 10/24 = 5/12

Profit % = 5/12 x 6/5 x 100 = 50%

Altetnate View :

The Shopkeeper gets 1200 gms instead of 1000 gms and gives 800 gms instead of 1000 gms.

Net profit by weight = 1200 - 800 = 400 gms.

To calculate profit %, we have to compare the profit against cost of what he actually gives out, i.e, 800.

=> Profit % = 400/800 x 100 = 50%

hope it helps you
