Given : A dishonest trader mix chili powder worth of rs.100 per kg with rs.40 per kg and labeled up 20%. also weighs 900 grams instead of 1000 grams

To Find :  how much discount he should give to earn a 14.28 % profit.

Solution:

A dishonest trader mix chili powder worth of rs.100 per kg with rs.40 per kg

Assuming mixture 50 : 50

Rate of 1 kg of mixture = (100 + 40)/2 = 70

Cost of 900 g = (900/1000)*70 = 63 Rs

CP = Rs 63

earn a 14.28 % profit. = 100/7 %

Profit =  (100/700) * 63  =  9  Rs

SP = 63 + 9 = 72  Rs

Labelled = 100 + (20/100)* 100  = Rs 120 Per kg

Discount   = 120 - 72 = 48 Rs

Discount % = (48 /120 * 100  = 40 %

He should offer 40 % Discount
