For 5cm in map , real distance is 500km
or, "1 cm ". ". real distance is 500/5 km
or, for 8 cm in map real distance is 500/5*8km
=100*8km=800km
Your answer is 800km

Leave the values in ratio form.

Actual distance : Distance on map

500km : 5cm

According to the question, the distance between the cities is 8cm on the map so we write it down as a ratio.

500km : 5cm

?km : 8cm

To find the actual distance, we can use the L-method. This means that 500km is multiplied with 8cm; the result is then divided by 5cm.

(500 × 8) ÷ 5 = 800

Hence, the actual distance is 800km if the cities are 8cm apart on the map.
