3 dog = 4 hare;
Or, dog/hare = 4/3
let hare's one leap = 3 metre and dog's leap = 4 metre
Then, dogs speed = 16 units (4*4)
hares speed = 15 units (5*3)

Given :

  • A dog takes 4 leaps for every 5 leaps of a hare
  • 3 leaps of a dog are equal to 4 leaps of the hare

To find :

   Speed of both Dog and Hare and to compare their speeds.

Solution:

Let us assume,

X is the velocity of the dog,

Y is the velocity of the hare.

And,

T1 is the time taken by the dog ,

T2 is the time taken by the hare .

So,

We have 4T1 = 5T2 .........(1)

            3XT1 = 4YT2 ...... (2)

comparing (1) and (2)

we get,

X/Y = 16/15
