Given :

Refractive index of double covex lens = μ₁

Refractive index of liquid = μ₂

To Find :

The relation between μ₁ and μ₂

Solution :

  • Let us assume light rays are travelling through the liquid medium and also the double convex lens
  • If μ₁ < μ₂, the lens will become diverging
  • If μ₁ > μ₂, the lens will become converging
  • For the lens to act as transparent plane sheet μ₁ = μ₂

The relation between μ₁ and μ₂ is μ₁ = μ₂
