Tapetum helps in dehiscence of anther to release the Pollen grains upon maturation. The Pollen grains are having sporopollenin which is a chemically inert substance. So they remain preserved in Fossils. Pollen grains are found to be nutritious, so can be consumed as tablets.

Explanation:

  • The microsporangium is the organ of plants where the microspore mother cells grow and divide to form the pollen grains.
  • It has four layers of protection namely Epidermis, Endothecium, Middle layer and Tapetum.
  • The tapetum is the final layer and the innermost layer just outside the microspore mother cells.
  • These tapetum dries up as the pollens mature and they contract leading to the dehiscence of anther.
  • The pollens are preserved in Fossils owing to the presence of sporopollenin on the outer layer of pollens.
  • Sporopollenin is a very hard compound, chemically inert to most of the chemicals.
  • So external environmental harshness can't destroy them.
  • Pollen contents and the sporopollenin are now a days found to be nutritious for personal health.
  • So they are either consumed as tablets, or sachets of powdered pollen contents.
