c. Guard cells open and close due to the flaccidity and turgidity of the cells present in them. When they become turgid they open up the pores enabling the gaseous exchange and loss of water through transpiration(during the day). On the other hand, when they turn flaccid stomatal pores are closed. Hence disabling the liquid and gaseous exchange.
