(a) Draw a ray diagram to show the formation of image of an object placed between infinity and optical center of a concave lens.; (b) A concave lens of focal length 15 cm forms an image 10 cm from the lens. Calculate; (i) the distance of the object from the lens; (ii) the magnification for the image formed; (iii) the nature of the image formed -(All India - 2011)

Lets solve for it

Explanation:

We are given with the data i.e.

focal length(f)= +15cm

image distance(v)= -10cm

1) distance of the object from the lens i.e 'u'=?

Applying lens formula:

1/v - 1/u = 1/f

1/v-1/u=1/f\\\\1/(-10) - 1/u =1/15\\-1/u=1/15+1/10\\u=-6cm

2) Magnification = v/u

                            =-10/-6

                             =1.67 (approx.)

3) The nature of the image is real, inverted and magnified.
