BD/DC = AB/AC.

or. BD/DC = 6 cm./7 cm.

or BD/DC= 6/7. , BD : DC = 6 : 7.

Let length of BD= 6.k cms. then length of DC=7.k cms.

But BD+DC = BC.

or. 6.k+7.k = 8.

or 13.k =8 => k= 8/13.

Length of shorter segment BD = 6.k = 6×(8/13) = 48/13 = 3.69 cm. Answer.
