Answer:

Cost price of the dress = 270 Rs.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given data

The marked price of the dress = 300 Rs.

the discount given on marked price = 10%

still the shopkeeper makes a profit of 20%

here we need to find cost price of the dress

After giving 10% discount on marked price

the dress selling price of dress =  360 -  \frac{10}{100} (360) = 324 Rs.

let x be the cost price of the dress

then the profit he gained on x, =  \frac{20}{100} x = \frac{x}{5}

we know that  profit = selling price - cost price

               ⇒        \frac{x}{5} =  324 - x

               ⇒       \frac{x}{5} + x = 324

               ⇒      \frac{6x}{5}  =324

               ⇒     6 x  = 1620

               ⇒      x = 1620 / 6 =  270 Rs.

⇒  cost price of the dress = 270 Rs.
