Explanation:
Pure water is more precious than gold. This statement may not make monetary sense but when you consider the fact that 783 million people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water according to the United Nations, it seems less fictitious. Gold is a luxury that we purchase when we are well beyond physiological and safety needs, it makes us feel good about ourselves and elevates out self-esteem. Water on the other hand is the most basic of needs, we cannot survive without drinking it and are not able to do multiple other tasks like cooking and cleaning in its absence. So to say that water is more valuable than gold makes sense considering the growing scarcity of the resource.
The global population growth is projected to be between 2-3 billion over the next 40 years according to the United Nations, this will result in a 70% increase in demand for food. What worsens the issue is the dietary shift from starch based meals to meat and dairy meals which requires more water. Producing 1 kg of rice for example requires 3,500 liters of water while 1 kg of beef requires 15,000 liters. This increased demand for beef and milk has also increased the rate of deforestation to create more grazing pastures for the cattle. This can speed up global warming; the cost of adapting to the impacts of a 2°C rise in global average temperature could range from US$70 to $100 billion per year between 2020 and 2050 according to the World Bank. Global warming can affect the quality and quantity of drinking water because when the sea levels rise, saltwater intrudes into groundwater supplies, especially in low-lying and gently sloping coastal areas. And the shrinking of mountain glaciers will reduce the available drinking water of millions of people.
This increasing scarcity of portable water is going to double the number of people without access to clean water. Therefore, we must take every effort to conserve water, even if it’s through small and menial things like turning off the tap while brushing our teeth, taking shorter showers and checking the toilet and kitchen area for leaks.
Aquafresh has always taken steps to preserve its pristine water source by extracting water according to annual geological reports conducted by qualified geologists so that the source will not be depleted. With our open fresh water sources like lakes and rivers being increasingly polluted, it is becoming more and more important to preserve the untouched sources we have below the earth’s surface.
