let the capacity of drum be x

NOW

(3X/4)-15=(7X/12)

(3X-60)/4=(7X)×4

36X-720=28X

8X=720

X=720/8

X=90.....

Given :

  • Drum of kerosene is 3/4 fuII
  • OiI drawn out = 15 L
  • Now it's 7/12 fuII

To find :

  • TotaI capacity of drum

Soiution :

Let the totaI capacity be Y Iitres.

So initiaI amount = 3/4 of Y = 3Y/4 Iitres.

FinaI amount = 7/12 of Y = 7Y/12 Iitres.

According to question :

⇒ 3Y/4 - 15 = 7Y/12

⇒ (3Y - 60)/4 = 7Y/12

⇒ 12(3Y - 60) = 28Y

⇒ 36Y - 720 = 28Y

⇒ 36Y - 28Y = 720

⇒ 8Y = 720

⇒ Y = 720/8

⇒ Y = 90 Iitres

Therefore,

TotaI capacity of drum = 90 Iitres.
