Given:

Length of dupatta = 3.5m

Width of dupatta = 1.25cm

Width of silk border = 2.5 cm

Length of silk border at one end = 4cm

Length of silk border at other end = 20 cm

To Find:

Area of the silk border

Solution:

Area of dupatta = length × breadth

= 3.5 m × 1.25 m

=  4.375 m²

Area of rectangle without silk border -

= 3.5 - ( 4 + 20 )

= 3.5  - 24

= 3.5 - 0.24   [Using 100 cm = 1 m]

= 3.26 m

Similarly, breadth = 1.25 m - (2.5  + 2.5)

= 1.25 - 5

= 1.25 - 0.05

= 1.2 m

Therefore, area of Dupatta without silk border = length × breadth

= 3.26  × 1.2

= 3.91 m²

Area of border = Area of dupatta - Area without silk border

= 4.375  - 3.91

= 0.465

Answer: The area of silk border is 0.465m²
