Explanation:

The act of being accountable, answerable is responsibility. So, with responsibility comes a sense of doing something with correctness as we are answerable.  

Answerable need not be to someone always, many a time we are answerable to our own selves. It could be our conscious. This accountability is what makes a person to do better and quicker the responsibility that one has taken.  

So, if one takes on the responsibility of doing something either for someone or to oneself, it is an act in which one would always want to excel. To excel in something, we must work harder and finish the work with perfections. This is why we say we shine by raising our responsibility.
