There are totally 118 elements...

These elements are classified as S ,D ,P AND F blocks based on Alkali ,, transition metals and etc..

They are arranged in the increasing order of their atomic number.

Metals are placed on the left side and non metals are placed in the right side.

There are 18 groups and 7 periods in the modern periodic table.

Horizontal rows are called periods and vertical columns are called as groups.

In the middle of the periodic table there are metalloids which separates the metals from the non metals.

In the table lanthanides and octanides are placed below the table

The shortest period is the first period which has only two elements H and He.

The 7th period is called as incomplete period.

the table is further divided into 4 shells which are s,p,d,f.

Elements having same number of valence electrons are placed in the same group.

Elements having the same number of valence shells are placed in the same period.
