Mr. Oliver was an Anglo-Indian teacher who used to teach in school ,3 miles away from Shimla. He was a bachelor and was staying alone in the school premises. His leisure activity was to walk down to the Shimla Bazar every evening and return after dark by taking a shortcut from pine forest. In the evening,Mr Oliver usually strolled into the town to visit the Simla Bazaar with its restaurants and cinemas. The Bazaar was only about three miles from the school.
