Answer:

1/25 or 0.4

Step-by-step explanation:

Machine B produces:

  • 40% of the items

Machine B produces:

  • 1% defective = 40*0.01= 0.4% of overall production

The probability of getting defective item produced by machine B:

  • 0.4% or 1/25

Solution2

A=60, B=40, total= 100

Def A= 60*2%=1.2

  • 1.2 out of 100 = 1.2%

Def B= 40*1%=0.4

  • 0.4 out of 100 = 0.4%

Answer is 0.4% or 1/25
