Given : A factory produces engraved gold disks.

the cost C of the disk is directly proportional to the cube of the radius r of the disk

A disk with radius 0.8 cm costs 375 USD

To Find : Equation which links C and r

Cost of disk with radius 1.1 cm

Solution:

cost C of the disk is directly proportional to the cube of the radius r of the disk

=> C  ∝ r³

=> C = kr³

where k is constant of proportionality

A disk with radius 0.8 cm costs 375 USD

=> 375 = k (0.8)³

=> k = 732.421875

C = kr³

=> C =  732.421875 r³

Cost of disk with radius 1.1 cm

=> C = 732.421875 (1.1)³

=> C = 974.853515625

=> C = 975 USD  to the nearest USD
