A falling head permeability test was performed
on a sand sample and the following data were
recorded:
Cross-sectional area of permeameter
= 100 cm2; length of the soil sample = 15 cm;
area of the stand pipe = 1cm2; time taken for
the head to fall from 150 cm to 50 cm = 8 min,
temperature of water was 25°C. Dry mass of
soil specimen = 2.2 kg and Gs = 2.68.
Calculate the coefficient of permeability of the
soil for a void ratio of 0.70 and standard
temperature 20°C.
