A family has four children.  What is the probability that two children are girls and two are boys?  Assume the the probability of having a boy (or a girl) is 50%.

The probability of one girl is 1/2. The probability of two girls is 1/2 * 1/2 (1/2^2)or 1/4. The probability of three girls is 1/2*1/2*1/2 (1/2^3) or 1/8. So the probability of n girls is 1/2^n.
