Given data : A family photograph has a length 14 ⅖ cm and breadth 10 ⅖ cm. It has border of uniform width 2 ⅗ cm.

To find : The area of the farmed photograph ?

Solution :

According to given data,

⟹ length of photograph = 14 ⅖ cm

⟹ length of photograph = 14 * 5/5 + 2/5

⟹ length of photograph = 70/5 + 2/5 cm

⟹ length of photograph = (70 + 2)/5 cm

⟹ length of photograph = 72/5 cm

similarly;

⟹ breadth of photograph = 10 ⅖ cm

⟹ breadth of photograph = 10 * 5/5 + 2/5 cm

⟹ breadth of photograph = 50/5 + 2/5 cm

⟹ breadth of photograph = (50 + 2)/5 cm

⟹ breadth of photograph = 52/5 cm

similarly;

⟹ width of uniform border = 2 ⅗ cm

⟹ width of uniform border = 2 * 5/5 + 3/5 cm

⟹ width of uniform border = 10/5 + 3/5 cm

⟹ width of uniform border = (10 + 3)/5 cm

⟹ width of uniform border = 13/5 cm

Now, the length and breadth of the photograph when the width of the border is added to it.

⟹ length of photograph with width = 72/5 + 13/5 + 13/5

⟹ length of photograph with width = 85/5 + 13/5

⟹ length of photograph with width = 98/5 cm

similarly;

⟹ breadth of photograph with width = 52/5 + 13/5 + 13/5

⟹ breadth of photograph with width = 65/5 + 13/5

⟹ breadth of photograph with width = 78/5 cm²

Now,

⟹ Area of the farmed photograph = 98/5 * 78/5

⟹ Area of the farmed photograph = 7644/25 cm²

Answer : Area of the farmed photograph is 7644/25 cm² ( 305.76 cm²).
