Given,

The milk price goes down by 25%.

The family wants to spend a constant amount of money.

To find,

The increased amount of milk consumption.

Solution,

Let, the constant amount of money = Rs. 100

And, the initial amount of milk = x litres

(Assume x as a variable to do the further mathematical calculations.)

Now,in the initial case,

The price of

x litres of milk = Rs. 100

After price reduction,

x litres of milk = 100 - (100 × 25/100) = 100-25 = Rs. 75

Now, the family still wants to pay Rs. 100.

In this case,

In Rs. 75 , they get = x litres of milk

In Rs. 1 , they get = x/75 litres of milk

In Rs. 100 , they get = 100x/75 = 4x/3 litres of milk

So,

The increased consumption = (4x/3 - x) = (4x-3x/3) = x/3 litres

Percentage increase = 100 × (x/3 ÷ x)

= 100 × (x/3 × 1/x)

= 100 × 1/3

= 33.33%

Hence, the consumption will be increased for 33.33%
