Given:

Number of desserts served in the cafe = 5

Number of beverages served in the cafe = 4

To find:

How many possibilities are there of choosing a dessert and a beverage.

Solution:

Number of ways of selecting a dessert out of five desserts = ⁵C₁ = 5

Number of ways of selecting a beverage out of four beverages = ⁴C₁= 4

Total number of ways in which a dessert and a beverage can be selected = 5 * 4 = 20

Therefore the possible number of outcomes will be 20.
