A farmer bought some maize seeds from the market. Before sowing the seeds, the farmer added seeds in the water and stirred the water. After few minutes, the farmer only collected the seeds that settled down in the bottom for sowing. What is the likely reason choosing the drowned seeds for sowing?

(a) Seeds at the bottom are heavy which will result in plants with good growth.

(b) Seeds at the bottom are not damaged which will result in plants that are healthy.

(c) Seeds at the bottom are light weight which will result in plants that grow taller.

(d) Seeds at the bottom absorbed more water which will result in plants with high water absorption capacity.

As given, the farmer went to the market and bought some maize seeds. The farmer put seeds in the water and swirled them before sowing the seeds. After a few minutes, the farmer only collected the seeds that had dropped to the bottom and were ready to be planted. The reason for choosing the drowned seeds for sowing is-  Seeds at the bottom are not damaged which will result in plants that are healthy. (Option b)

  • If we drown some seeds in water then by the property of water the damaged ones will float and the healthy ones will remain stable on the bottom.
  • Water has the ability to allow lighter objects to float while heavier ones sink. The damaged ones lack all of the nutrients and elements necessary for the plant to flourish, they float on water. From the inside, they become hollow, allowing them to be filled with air.  But the healthy seeds remain heavier, so they just sink.
