Given - Total cost and cost of horses and cows

Find - Number of horses and cows

Solution - Let the number of horses be x. So, number of cows will be 2x.

As per the question-

x*55 + 2x*32 = 1428

Performing multiplication on Left Hand Side

55x + 64x = 1428

Performing addition

119x = 1428

x = 1428/119

Performing division to find the value of x

x = 12

Number of horses = 12

Number of cows = 2x

Number of cows = 2*12

Performing multiplication

Number of cows = 24

Hence, number of cows and horses are 24 and 12. Therefore, he bought 12 horses.
