Question= A farmer can reap a field in 10 days while his can do it in 8 days (she does not waste time in smoking).if they work together,in how much time can they reap the field?

Solution:

The farmer takes 10 days to reap the harvest while his wife does the same work in 8 days.

That is to say the farmer does 1/10th of the work in a day while his wife does 1/8th of the work. Together they do (8+10)/(10*8) = 18/80 or 9/40th of the work. So the two together will harvest the field in 40/9 days or 4 and 4/9th of a day, that is less than 4.5 days.
