A farmer has few hens and cows their head count is 100 and their legs are 280. Find howmany hens

hens = 60

let number of cows = x
number of hens = y
therefore
x + y = 100.........1
y = 100 - x..........2
also
4x + 2y = 280.........3
substitute 2 in 3
4x + 2(100 - x) = 280
4x + 200 - 2x = 280
2x = 280 - 200
2x = 80
x = 40
put the value of x in 2
y = 100 - x
y = 100 - 40
y = 60
