the yield declined because the nutrients were used up by the crops grown in the field . the farmer needs to replenish the soil with nutrients using various methods like field fallow , using manures and fertilizer s etc.

The farmer can use mixed cropping that means to grow different crops during different seasons so the land will don't loose it's fertility,,,,,,, the farmer can also use different fertiliser, manure, the crops must get water according to it's need.
