QUESTION
~~~~~~~~~~~
A farmer move along boundary of a square field of side 10min 4 sec .what will be magnitude of displacement of farmer at end of 2 minutes 20seconds from
Initial position?
ANSWER;-
~~~~~~~~~
According to the question
€. Side of square =10 m
€. Perimeter of the square = 4X10 =40m
€. Farmer completes I round in 4sec
€. So, speed = 40/40=1m/s
So in €. 2 min and 20 s (140 s), he will cover a distance = (40/40) × 140 = 140 m.
€. Therefore , farmer completes (140/40) = 3.5 rounds of the field in 2 min and 20 seconds.
after 2 min 20 s, the farmer will be at the opposite end of the starting point.
Now, both these cases
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Case I: Starting point is a corner point of the field.
In case, the farmer will be at the diagonally opposite corner of the field after 2 min 20 s.
Therefore, displacement will be equal to the diagonal of the field. = 14.14 m.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Case II: Starting point is the middle point of any side of the field.
In this case the farmer will be at the middle point of the opposite side the field ~after 2 min 20 s.
Therefore, so the displacement will be equal to the side of the field, that is 10 m.
For any other starting point, displacement will btw 14.1 and in 10 m
